No rescue 2 hard!

Ready 2 Rescue is happy to support our teachers!! They are the ones that prepare our children for their future. If you've been helped by a doctor, lawyer, fire fighter, police officer, or anyone in any other profession.....you can thank a teacher for preparing them for that career!! Without teachers, those people would not be in those professions!! The next time you see a teacher, don't say, "Wow, you get summer's off!" Instead, try saying, "Thanks for all the overtime (that they don't get paid for) you put in all school year, and for giving up part of your summer to prepare for the next school year!"
Baby Izzy (now Sophia) will now be a teacher's puppy!! We couldn't be prouder!!

Ready 2 Rescue......RATS??
It was a simple trip to the shelter to rescue a dog or two...or so I thought!! After going through the shelter and picking a couple of dogs to rescue, we're standing at the front, filling out paperwork. The next thing I hear is, "Mimi, let's rescue a rat!". As I look over, there stands my granddaughter looking into two large tanks with one marked "Males" and the other marked "Females", with a sign that says $5.00 each. Upon closer inspection, I see several baby rats inside the tanks. We then find out that the baby rats were born at the shelter and are up for adoption. Well, that's all it took, and my granddaughter was on the phone to her mother, asking if she could bring one home. After a lengthy conversation with her mother, she was told, "We'll have to see if we can get something to keep it in first, then we'll see." As you can guess, we were back at the shelter the next day, with her new cage in hand, to pick up not one, but two baby rats!! There were many comments made, and questions asked, as we stood at the counter filling out paperwork to adopt them. "You're actually going to adopt those?" "Rats? Oh, no, that's not what your granddaughter wants....she wants a hamster...she's confused....she doesn't want a rat." "We used to rescue rats!" "Oh, look at their cute little faces!" "What's in there? OH!! NO!!" We never did convince the one lady that our granddaughter really didn't want a hamster, she really DID want rats! Soooo, I'm the proud grandparent of rescue rats now, and I think my daughter is enjoying watching and playing with them as much as the kids do!

Firefighter Benefit Ball
Ready 2 Rescue happily donated adoption fees, raised in the auctions at the Firefighter Benefit Ball this month. The proceeds of this event went to a Garland firefighter injured in a car accident, in Rockwall, in December of 2012. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this firefighter and his family as he goes through rehabilitation.
Our precious puppies, Bandit and Brie, joined the event and found their forever homes that night! We heard they were the hit of the party and behaved quite well amongst the guests!

Passing on the Love
As parents, you strive to give the best to your children. As grandparents, you begin thinking about what you'll leave with your grandchildren, after you've left this world. How will they remember you? What will be their favorite memory of you?
In starting Ready 2 Rescue, it began with our love for dogs, and the desire to rescue and successfully rehome as many dogs as we could. Well, we discovered another reason! We want to pass down through our family, that love for dogs, the need for people like us to be involved, and help them out as much as we can.
In order to begin that process, we have recruited our 10 year old granddaughter, Jessica, to help us out with Ready 2 Rescue. She has volunteered and attended 2 events, helped in naming dogs, helped in socializing dogs, and has recently chosen her own first rescue dog.
Most chidlren would immediately gravitate towards the cute, little puppies, but not her. She said she wanted to rescue a bigger dog, not a little one. In doing so, she walked through all the dogs at the shelter, looking at each one carefully. After seeing them all, she asked to see two different dogs. She took each one outside to meet them. It only took a few moments of interaction, and she chose A.J.! There was no question in her mind that this was the dog for her to rescue.
She continued the process, by learning and helping with paperwork, walking him outside, and riding in the back seat with him on the ride home. She helped bathe him and get him settled in for the night. She has since, visited and played with him, wanting to make sure all is well in his world.
I know it will be difficult for her to let him go, but he will, no doubt, be one of those memories that remain with her. It is our hope, that not only have we begun the task of rescuing dogs, but have also begun to pass on this task for generations to come!

UPDATE: A.J. has been adopted into a wonderful family!!
